Welcome to the Canadian Music Competition

We present you the 2007 Syllabus to you which includes all the information regarding the Canadian Music Competition. The National Final will be held this year in Sherbrooke (Québec)

Canadian Music Competition was founded in Montreal in 1958. Since that time, 17 chapters have developed and can be found in almost every province in Canada. The aims and objectives of the founders are still shared today by the volunteers who form part of the extended family of Canadian Music Competition. They are the pillars of our organization and provide the energy necessary for C.M.C. to succeed in fulfilling its goals, which are to help young musicians in their development by organizing an annual competition, to provide them opportunities to perform in public, and to award them scholarships. Every year, mote than $120,000 is given in scholarships accross Canada. a concert with orchestra, featuring some of the best candidates, makes a magnificent conclusion of the National Final.

Canadian Music Competition aims to create an event that will stimulate the young musician to rise beyond his level, to develop his personality, to stimulate his critical mind and to bloom as a musician. Every year approximately 750 young people register in CMC. The candidates, in collaboration with their teachers, can find a large selection in the music programs which allows them to choose a repertoire that is suitable to their own levels of development and to their goals in a long term perspective.

The adjudicators for the first round and for the provincial final do not just select a few candidates for each category to go on to the next level; everyone who receives the necessary average in each of the rounds can go on. The candidates receive grades for their own performance and not in comparison with others. Thus everyone has a chance to participate in the National Final. In this National Final, the participants are heard by 5 adjudicators who, at the end of each category, proceed with the ranking.

We wish you the best of luck in your preparation because this is the key to success. Do not hesitate to contact us or the person in charge in your chapter if you have any questions. Visit our website You will find all the information as well as the registration form.

We look forward to meet you!
